Protecting our Environment
I am standing up for the protection of the Sydney Turpentine Iron-Bark Forest in Concord, a critically endangered ecological community that supports a rich diversity of native plants and wildlife, including the critically endangered Swift Parrot. The proposed Burwood North Metro rezoning and associated large-scale developments, particularly those planned opposite Queen Elizabeth Park, raise serious concerns about the impact of dust, soil movement, stormwater runoff, noise and other construction-related disturbances on this fragile ecosystem. This forest is not only a sanctuary for threatened species but also an important link within a broader network of native habitats that support biodiversity across Sydney. I believe these irreplaceable natural assets deserve stronger environmental protections, comprehensive ecological assessments and a thorough evaluation of the long-term impacts before any rezoning proceeds.
